  2. This may be the greatest Brahms 1 ever put on record.

    While there may arguably be finer Furtwaengler performances of the other works here (the December 1944 Eroica) the Brahms is simply phenomenal.

    Oh, by the way, it is NOT the London Philharmonic playing the Beethoven 9, it is the Philharmonia Orchestra - the one created in 1945 by Walter Legge initially as a recording-only orchestra.

    My friend Bob "The Bass" Meyer was in the Philharmonia at the time and is playing in this B9. He's 94 next month...
